Interesting women doing interesting things: Jessie Ivancic
As a Melbourne headshot photographer I come across some incredible women. I created this blog category to show them off and the headshots we make together. I sat down with Jessie and asked her these 15 questions:
Name and job title?
Jessie Ivancic, former Head of HR – SSO & TA, Myer Pty Ltd, current full-time mum to sassy toddler.
What would your drag queen name be?
Indy Pendent.
Biggest fashion disaster?
Many. I was big into the fluoro phase of the mid 2000’s. We were human highlighters. Another that springs to mind from the same era – not my own, but glorious nonetheless – was my cousin’s platinum blonde clip in hair extension flying loose from her head mid aggressive dance move on a podium, and landing in a light fitting.
You just won $100 million. What’s the first thing you’re buying?
A fancy boat. I am the dichotomy of luxury-loving and a keen fisherwoman.
Last time you cried and why?
Recently, laughing at a video of my friend taking a spectacular stack down a playground slide. Disclaimer: no one was hurt in the making of the video.
You will never hear me say “that has too much coriander”. What will I never hear you say?
“Have you seen the latest Kardashian’s ep?” – it’s just not my jam. #nonfictionforlife
What makes you angry?
Unsolicited or unfounded opinions. Just because we have one, doesn’t mean it should be offered. And the social expectations of women, generally speaking. Oh, and climate change deniers.
What gives you joy?
When my daughter holds my hand.
What keeps you up at night?
Crime documentaries.
Proudest moment in business?
Having a hand in the recovery of $2.5 million worth of employee entitlements, via FEG, lost when STA Travel went into liquidation as the Employee’s Representative in the Committee of Inspection. (While I was heavily pregnant on my journey to solo parenthood.)
Business lesson you wish you had known when you started?
HR should bring in revenue. It isn’t enough to just do HR.
Worst moment in business?
Making an error in payroll right before Christmas. I still don’t think I have forgiven myself.
Favourite item of clothing and why?
My Nonna’s Slovenian apron from the 1960’s. It helps me channel the cooking skills of my ancestry.
I wish I’d stop saying…
Not a lot. I’m a pretty intentional communicator; goes with the HR Leader territory. Others would probably wish I’d stop singing though. I’m unusually talented at remembering song lyrics, much to the displeasure of my loved ones, I’m sure.
What is the sexiest occupation?
Not one that requires excessive overtime! Time for connection is key.
Thank you so much for your time Jessie.
