Interesting women doing interesting things: Margie Thomas
As a Melbourne headshot photographer I come across some incredible women. I created this blog category to show them off and the headshots we make together. I sat down with Margie and asked her these 15 questions:
Name and job title?
Margie Thomas. Funds management.
What would your drag queen name be?
Little Miss Sunshine.
Biggest fashion disaster?
All in one lycra bodysuit (a tragic wardrobe staple from my rowing days).
You just won $100 million. What’s the first thing you’re buying?
Chicken cashew stir fry, massaman beef, green chicken curry and steamed rice from our fave local Thai for dinner with the fam.
Last time you cried and why?
The other day: watching a loved one slip away to Alzheimers is an enduring grief.
You will never hear me say “that has too much coriander”. What will I never hear you say?
No thanks, I couldn’t possibly have another….cup of tea!
What makes you angry?
Not much actually.
What gives you joy?
English Breakfast tea…with a dash of milk!
What keeps you up at night?
Scout, my four legged baby that barks at the flutter of a butterfly in Brazil. Failing that, not much keeps me up – I’m not a huge worry wart!
Proudest moment in business?
When a colleague I managed and mentored moved on to big things in his career. Then some years later he head hunted me to lead his team.
I know I’ve succeeded when those I lead, one day lead me.
Business lesson you wish you had known when you started?
Seek out experience over monetary reward – Ultimately the riches are in the experiences, not in your back pocket!
Worst moment in business?
Happily, I have nothing to report.
Favourite item of clothing and why?
Confessional time: my mobile: Technically not clothing attire, but I feel naked without it! (Editor’s note: I can confirm this – Margie’s always glued to it!)
I wish I’d stop saying…
Yes!
What is the sexiest occupation?
A parent:
They kiss the scrapes, nurse the bruises and wipe away the tears. They allow space for you to stumble but they catch you if you fall. They raise the mum’s, the dad’s, and the leader’s of tomorrow. They don’t often make the headlines, but their good work, although maybe quieter, is there if you look.
Thank you so much for your time Margie.
